Boosting Energy Stability in Dubai:
This project plays a crucial role in strengthening Dubai’s energy infrastructure by enhancing its ability to seamlessly transition between natural gas and solar power. As the UAE continues its commitment to energy diversification and sustainability, initiatives like this ensure a more reliable and flexible power supply for the region.
Cutting-Edge Technology for Enhanced Performance:
Baker Hughes is bringing its expertise in coiled-tubing and under-balanced drilling to this initiative. A key component of the project is the company’s advanced CoilTrak coiled-tubing bottomhole assembly (BHA) system, which allows operators to efficiently navigate complex subsurface environments during horizontal drilling. This technology maximizes reservoir contact, a critical factor in underground gas storage, ensuring improved efficiency and long-term sustainability.
Industry Leaders Driving Innovation:
Amerino Gatti, Executive Vice President of Baker Hughes Oilfield Services & Equipment, emphasized the company’s industry leadership in coiled-tubing drilling and mature asset solutions. He stated:
“Baker Hughes has established itself as a pioneer in coiled-tubing drilling and innovative energy solutions. Our extensive track record in the region enables us to support DPE in scaling up reliable, secure, and lower-carbon power solutions for Dubai.”
The contract includes the supply of ten Intelligent Completion Logging (ICL) units, five of which will be dedicated to gas storage, while the remaining five will be used for dual-purpose injection boosting or gas export operations.
Baker Hughes Expanding Global Presence:
Beyond its latest contract in Dubai, Baker Hughes continues to expand its global footprint. In March 2025, the company entered a strategic framework agreement with NextDecade, a leading liquefied natural gas (LNG) firm, to supply gas turbine and refrigerant compressor technology for trains four through eight at the Rio Grande LNG facility in Texas, USA. As part of the agreement, Baker Hughes will also provide maintenance services for the equipment, further solidifying its role as a key player in the global energy sector.
Conclusion:
Baker Hughes’ involvement in the Margham gas storage project highlights its commitment to delivering cutting-edge energy solutions that enhance reliability and efficiency. As Dubai continues to invest in sustainable energy infrastructure, partnerships like this will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the region’s energy landscape.
