The Catamaran Verandas will feature a next-generation aluminium and glass façade system designed to meet the globally recognised Passive House certification standards—making it the first of its kind in Bahrain. This advanced design will ensure superior thermal insulation, enhanced acoustic performance, and significant energy savings, thanks to the use of triple-glazed (treble-glazed) units.
Currently under construction, the project is expected to be completed by February 2026. City Glass – Bahrain is responsible for both supplying and installing over 26,000 square metres of premium façade materials for the skyscraper.
Pioneering Sustainable Facade Engineering in Bahrain
Sayed Mohamed Al-Alawi, Executive Manager at City Glass – Bahrain, highlighted the project’s importance in raising the bar for high-rise construction in the region.
“Our goal is to redefine what’s possible in façade engineering,” Al-Alawi stated. “With Catamaran Verandas, we are proving that Bahraini innovation and expertise can lead the future of skyscraper development in the Gulf.”
This high-profile project was designed by Arab Architects and is poised to be a showpiece for modern, environmentally responsible architecture in Bahrain.
A One-Stop Shop for Advanced Facade Solutions
Since its founding, City Glass – Bahrain has established itself as a trusted provider of advanced glass solutions. However, the company’s strategic pivot in 2020 to include aluminium operations has unlocked new possibilities. By integrating aluminium fabrication with its core glass services, City Glass now delivers end-to-end façade systems under one roof—streamlining workflows, reducing costs, and enhancing project efficiency.
“Our unique value lies in our holistic approach,” Al-Alawi added. “Clients don’t need multiple contractors—we handle everything from design and fabrication to installation. That’s a game-changer in this industry.”
This full-service model has earned City Glass the trust of architects, developers, and homeowners not just in Bahrain, but across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region.
Diverse Portfolio Across Key Sectors
City Glass – Bahrain’s versatility is reflected in a diverse portfolio of completed projects that cater to a wide range of architectural needs:
- Healthcare: The Long Stay Care Centre in Muharraq showcases high-performance glazing tailored for durability and energy efficiency.
- Residential: The Khudr Homes project, with 107 premium villas, demonstrates City Glass’s flair for elegant, high-end façade solutions.
- Commercial: From mid-rise commercial buildings to custom villa façades, the company consistently delivers quality with precision and attention to detail.
Each of these projects reinforces the company’s reputation for reliability, craftsmanship, and sustainable design.
Looking Ahead: Targeting the GCC Skyscraper Market
With the Catamaran Verandas project setting a new benchmark, City Glass – Bahrain is now aiming higher—literally. The company plans to leverage its success to pursue high-rise projects across the GCC, a region increasingly focused on skyline-defining skyscrapers and smart city initiatives.
In tandem, City Glass is actively investing in research and development (R&D), with a focus on smart facade technologies. This includes:
- Dynamic Shading Systems – automated solutions that optimize natural light and interior temperatures
- Photovoltaic Glass Integration – turning building exteriors into energy-generating surfaces
These innovations align with the region’s push for greener, smarter urban development.
A New Chapter in Bahrain’s Green Building Movement
Beyond its architectural appeal, the Catamaran Verandas project is a bold statement in support of Bahrain’s commitment to sustainable construction. The integration of treble-glazed systems and precision-engineered aluminium frameworks represents a major step toward Passive House certification, one of the highest global standards for energy-efficient buildings.
“Achieving Passive House standards reflects our dedication to global green building goals,” said Al-Alawi. “It shows that Bahrain is not only keeping pace with eco-friendly innovation—but leading it.”
Shaping the Skyline, Defining the Future
City Glass – Bahrain’s evolution from a trusted local façade provider to a skyscraper-ready innovator demonstrates the power of vision, agility, and expertise. By unifying aluminium and glass capabilities under one integrated platform, the company is poised to shape the future of urban design across the region.
“We’re not just building façades,” Al-Alawi concluded. “We’re shaping skylines and inspiring what comes next in modern architecture.”
