Sources reveal that the agreement is being finalized with a renowned Turkish international company, which will be responsible for conducting the project’s study, producing detailed engineering designs, and preparing the tender documents for the foundational stage of the national railway initiative.
This contract marks a pivotal transition from planning to execution, as Kuwait embarks on a transformative infrastructure journey. The initial phase is expected to span 12 months and will lay the groundwork for future construction by delivering all technical and design documentation required for upcoming implementation bids.
At the heart of this project lies a 111-kilometer railway line connecting Kuwait to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. One of the standout features of this development is a state-of-the-art passenger station planned for the Shadadiya area, occupying an expansive two million square meter site. Kuwait will serve as the northern gateway to the Gulf Railway Link, a mega-project aiming to connect all six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations.
The entire Gulf Railway Project is slated for completion by 2030, with Kuwait contributing around 5% to the overall network. The construction process is divided into three key stages: appointing a global consultancy, conducting prequalification and bidding, and full-scale execution of the railway infrastructure.
Spearheaded by the Public Authority for Roads and Land Transport, this mega initiative is a cornerstone of Kuwait Vision 2035, the country’s long-term development plan. The railway is expected to enhance regional connectivity, reduce travel times, and promote economic growth by offering a modern, safe, and eco-friendly transport solution for passengers and cargo alike.
As one of the largest infrastructure projects in the Middle East, the Gulf Railway Interconnection Project reflects Kuwait’s commitment to innovation and integration in transportation. By taking this bold leap forward, Kuwait is positioning itself at the forefront of regional connectivity and economic diversification.
