Powering Saudi Arabia’s Future
Located in the central and eastern regions of the Kingdom, the Rumah-1 and Al-Nairyah-1 power plants are being developed by a powerhouse consortium comprising the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), ACWA Power, and Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO). Once operational, these plants will contribute a combined 3.6 gigawatts (GW) of electricity—accounting for nearly 2.5% of the country’s total energy grid capacity.
With Saudi Arabia’s increasing shift towards renewable energy, these baseload power plants will ensure grid stability while integrating sustainable energy sources. By providing uninterrupted, reliable electricity, they will meet the growing demand for power and support the country’s ambitious Vision 2030 objectives.
Advanced Technology with Local Impact
Mitsubishi Power’s M501JAC turbines are globally recognized for their high efficiency, reliability, and operational flexibility. These advanced turbines will be assembled in Saudi Arabia at Mitsubishi Power’s Dammam facility—a 17,730-square-meter manufacturing hub that plays a key role in localizing energy solutions.
With a workforce largely comprised of Saudi talent, the facility aligns with Mitsubishi Power’s Saudi National program. This initiative fosters career opportunities for local professionals, equipping them with advanced technical skills through hands-on training and knowledge-sharing programs.
A Strategic Step Towards Sustainability
Under the supervision of Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Energy, the Rumah-1 and Al-Nairyah-1 power plants are pivotal to the Kingdom’s energy transition strategy. Saudi Arabia aims for renewables and natural gas to each contribute 50% of the electricity mix by 2030. These projects also support the broader Saudi Green Initiative, which targets net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2060 using a circular carbon economy approach.
Industry Leaders Weigh In
Khalid Salem, President of Middle East & North Africa at Mitsubishi Power, expressed the company’s commitment to advancing Saudi Arabia’s energy infrastructure:
“We are honored to collaborate with SEC, ACWA Power, KEPCO, and Doosan Enerbility on these groundbreaking projects. As Saudi Arabia accelerates its adoption of renewable energy, the Rumah-1 and Al-Nairyah-1 plants will play a crucial role in ensuring a stable and reliable power supply. Our M501JAC gas turbines, known for their superior efficiency and flexibility, will deliver consistent power even in the toughest conditions. This partnership is a testament to our dedication to delivering hydrogen-ready, cutting-edge energy solutions that align with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and its long-term sustainability goals.”
A Legacy of Powering Saudi Arabia
Mitsubishi Power has a strong legacy in Saudi Arabia, spanning over five decades. The company has worked closely with key energy stakeholders such as the Ministry of Energy, Saudi Aramco, SEC, and the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC). Mitsubishi Power’s journey in the Kingdom began in the 1960s with the supply of boilers to Aramco in Abqaiq. Since then, it has played a pivotal role in powering major utilities and industrial projects across the country.
With a strong focus on innovation and sustainability, Mitsubishi Power remains committed to supporting Saudi Arabia’s energy ambitions. The company continues to drive advancements in clean, reliable, and efficient power solutions, shaping a brighter, more sustainable future for the Kingdom.
