Massive Bridge Project Announced Over Dubai Creek to Boost Connectivity and Traffic Flow
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled a major infrastructure project featuring the construction of a new 1,425-meter-long bridge over Dubai Creek. Positioned strategically between the iconic Infinity Bridge and the Port Rashid Development area, the bridge is a vital component of the Al Shindagha Corridor Development Project.

Designed to handle the city’s rapid urban expansion, the bridge will feature four lanes in each direction, offering a total capacity of 16,000 vehicles per hour. With a height of 18.5 meters above Dubai Creek and a 75-meter-wide navigational channel, the bridge ensures seamless passage for various types of marine vessels.
This key infrastructure initiative is part of RTA’s broader strategy to accommodate Dubai’s growing population and enhance mobility across the emirate. It aims to reduce congestion, support ongoing development, and improve access between major districts, including Deira and Bur Dubai.
Enhancing Dubai’s Road Network with the Al Shindagha Corridor
The bridge is one phase of the expansive Al Shindagha Corridor Development Project—one of RTA’s most ambitious undertakings. Spanning 13 kilometers, the corridor includes 15 major intersections and has been divided into five phases due to its scale.
Once completed, the project will benefit an estimated one million residents and facilitate smoother access to key developments such as Dubai Islands, Deira Waterfront, Dubai Maritime City, and Port Rashid.
RTA Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors, Mattar Al Tayer, highlighted that the project will also feature direct access routes to and from Dubai Islands, significantly enhancing connectivity to this growing destination.
Pedestrian and Cyclist-Friendly Features
In a move toward sustainable and inclusive urban mobility, the bridge will also include a dedicated pedestrian and cycling path connecting both ends. Elevators will be installed to make movement easier for cyclists and pedestrians.
Additionally, the project will include 2,000 meters of surface roads linking the new bridge with existing roads in both Dubai Islands and the Bur Dubai area.
Building on Past Success
This marks the second major contract under the initiative to establish direct entry and exit points to Dubai Islands. The first, completed in 2020 in partnership with Dubai Holding, featured three bridges totaling 1.6 kilometers in length. These included:
- A two-lane bridge for traffic from Dubai Islands to Al Khaleej Street northbound,
- A three-lane bridge to Al Khaleej Street southbound,
- And another two-lane bridge enabling flow from Al Khaleej Street southward to Dubai Islands.
Public-Private Partnership for Future-Ready Communities
Amit Kaushal, CEO of Dubai Holding Group, emphasized the importance of collaboration with RTA in shaping Dubai’s future infrastructure.
“Our partnership with RTA reflects our commitment to creating smarter, more connected communities,” said Kaushal. “This new bridge will significantly enhance access to Dubai Islands, aligning with our vision of building integrated, sustainable developments across the emirate.”
As Dubai continues to evolve into a global hub for innovation, business, and tourism, infrastructure projects like this bridge over Dubai Creek play a crucial role in ensuring the city remains connected, efficient, and ready for the future.
