Nama Power & Water Procurement Company Receives 12 Bids for Major Power Projects in Oman

Oman’s Nama Power & Water Procurement Company has officially announced that it has received bids from 12 leading international and regional utility developers for two significant upcoming projects – the Misfah Independent Power Plant (IPP) in the Muscat Governorate and the Duqm IPP located in Al Wusta.

These two projects are part of Nama’s efforts to expand the Sultanate’s electricity generation capacity through high-efficiency combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) technology. Together, the two power plants will add approximately 2,400 megawatts (MW) to Oman’s national grid, supporting future energy demands and enhancing energy security.

Who’s in the Running?

According to Nama, the bidding process attracted some of the biggest names in the global energy sector. International companies that have submitted Statements of Qualification (SOQs) include:

  • Samsung C&T Corporation

  • Korea Western Power

  • Marubeni Corporation

  • Sumitomo Corporation

  • Reliance Power

  • Sembcorp Utilities

  • Shenzhen Energy Group

Alongside these global giants, prominent regional players have also thrown their hats in the ring:

  • Acwa Power Company (Saudi Arabia)

  • Nebras Power (Qatar)

  • Al Ghanim International (Kuwait)

  • Etihad Water and Electricity Company (UAE)

  • Al Jomaih Energy & Water Company (Saudi Arabia)

About the Projects

Both the Misfah and Duqm IPP projects will utilize combined cycle gas turbine technology, known for its high efficiency and lower carbon emissions compared to traditional power plants. The combined output of 2,400 MW will play a crucial role in meeting growing electricity demand across Oman’s expanding economy.
