In a significant milestone for Saudi Arabia’s energy sector, Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman announced on Wednesday the discovery of 14 new oil and natural gas fields and reservoirs by Saudi Aramco. These groundbreaking discoveries span across the Eastern Province and the vast Empty Quarter desert, further solidifying the Kingdom’s position as a global energy powerhouse.
The newly discovered reserves include six new oil fields, two oil reservoirs, two gas fields, and four natural gas reservoirs. Prince Abdulaziz extended heartfelt congratulations to King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, expressing optimism that these discoveries would pave the way for continued national development and prosperity.
Key Oil Discoveries in the Eastern Province and Empty Quarter
Among the standout oil discoveries:
- Jabu Oil Field: Located in the Eastern Province, Arabian Extra Light Oil was found flowing from the Jabu-1 well at a rate of 800 barrels per day (bpd).
- Sayahid Oil Field: Also in the Eastern Province, the Sayahid-2 well produced 630 bpd of Arabian Extra Light Oil.
- Ayfan Oil Field: This promising field produced 2,840 bpd of Arabian Extra Light Oil and 0.44 million standard cubic feet (MMscf) of associated gas per day.
- Jubaila Reservoir (Berri Field): The Berri-907 well yielded 520 bpd of Arabian Light Oil along with 0.2 MMscf of gas per day.
- Unayzah-A Reservoir (Mazalij Field): The Mazalij-64 well delivered 1,011 bpd of Arabian Super Light Oil and 0.92 MMscf of gas daily.
In the Empty Quarter, several notable oil fields were confirmed:
- Nuwayr Oil Field: Produced 1,800 bpd of Arabian Medium Oil and 0.55 MMscf of associated gas per day.
- Damda Oil Field: The Damda-1 well tapped two reservoirs, producing 200 bpd of Arabian Medium Oil (Mishrif-C) and 115 bpd of Arabian Extra Light Oil (Mishrif-D).
- Qurqas Oil Field: Generated 210 bpd of Arabian Medium Oil from Qurqas-1 well.
Major Natural Gas Discoveries Fuel Future Growth
The Kingdom also made significant strides in natural gas exploration:
- Ghizlan Gas Field: Located in the Eastern Province, the Ghizlan-1 well produced 32 MMscf of gas per day from the Unayzah B/C reservoir, alongside 2,525 barrels of condensate.
- Araam Gas Field: Yielded 24 MMscf of gas daily from the Unayzah B/C reservoir with 3,000 barrels of condensate.
- Qusaiba Reservoir (Mihwaz Field): Produced 3.5 MMscf of gas and 485 barrels of condensate per day.
In the Empty Quarter, more reservoirs were uncovered in the Marzouq Field, where:
- Arab-C Reservoir yielded 9.5 MMscf of gas/day.
- Arab-D Reservoir added another 10 MMscf/day.
- Upper Jubaila Reservoir contributed 1.5 MMscf/day from the same well.
Driving Vision 2030 and Energy Security
Prince Abdulaziz emphasized the strategic importance of these discoveries, calling them a testament to the Kingdom’s vast and untapped hydrocarbon potential. “These finds not only reinforce Saudi Arabia’s global energy leadership but also open new doors for economic growth and innovation,” he noted.
He added that the new fields will help meet both domestic and global energy demands in a sustainable and efficient manner, aligning with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals. The continued development of the Kingdom’s energy resources, he said, will strengthen energy security, stimulate investment, and contribute to a diversified and resilient economy.
