Saudi Arabia’s Delivery Sector Soars in 2024 with Over 290 Million Orders: Riyadh Leads the Way
RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s delivery sector witnessed explosive growth in 2024, with total registered orders surpassing 290 million, marking a significant milestone for the Kingdom’s expanding logistics market. The Transport General Authority (TGA) revealed these numbers, highlighting the growing demand for fast, flexible, and tech-enabled delivery solutions across the country.
This surge in activity reflects the Kingdom’s ongoing push towards digital transformation and its goal of becoming a global leader in logistics and e-commerce services. Currently, 61 licensed companies operate in the delivery sector under the TGA’s supervision, serving millions of customers through advanced delivery platforms and mobile apps.
Riyadh Dominates Delivery Activity
The Riyadh region emerged as the undisputed leader, recording 130.5 million orders in 2024 alone—45.3% of all deliveries in the country. This high volume can be attributed to the capital's dense population, vibrant economy, and high digital adoption rates.
Riyadh was followed by:
- Makkah Region: 65.4 million orders (22.7%)
- Eastern Province: 43.2 million orders (15%)
- Madinah: 12.3 million orders (4.3%)
- Asir: 9.4 million orders (3.2%)
- Qassim: 8.5 million orders (2.9%)
- Tabuk: 5.2 million orders (1.8%)
- Hail: 4.1 million orders (1.4%)
- Jazan: 3.3 million orders (1.1%)
The remaining orders were distributed across other regions, in line with population size, economic activity, and local demand for delivery services.
The Rise of Smart Delivery Apps
The TGA emphasized that smartphone delivery apps have become deeply integrated into the daily lives of both Saudi citizens and expatriates. With over 50 licensed delivery companies operating across the Kingdom, consumers now enjoy unprecedented access to goods and services from the comfort of their homes.
The convenience and efficiency of these apps have fueled the rising demand for online shopping and rapid delivery options, driving the sector’s impressive performance in 2024.
Factors Driving Growth in Saudi Arabia’s Delivery Industry
The TGA attributes this rapid expansion to several critical developments:
-
Progressive regulations and streamlined policies, allowing companies to innovate and provide high-quality services.
Robust digital infrastructure, ensuring seamless online transactions and delivery tracking.
Investment in cutting-edge technologies, such as automation and AI, to enhance operational efficiency.
Evolving consumer habits, with more people embracing e-commerce and digital shopping platforms.
These combined efforts have reduced response times, improved delivery accuracy, and boosted overall customer satisfaction.
Boosting the Kingdom’s Logistics and Digital Economy
As the delivery market continues to flourish, it strengthens Saudi Arabia’s position as a regional hub for logistics services and a leader in the digital economy. The growth aligns with the broader objectives of Vision 2030, which aims to diversify the economy and enhance the quality of life for residents.
The TGA reiterated its commitment to fostering innovation in the logistics sector by encouraging investments in smart technologies and supporting sustainable growth. By creating a business-friendly environment and enabling service providers to scale effectively, the authority plays a key role in driving digital transformation in the Kingdom.
